Pastor Steve joined Fremont United Methodist Church in January 2026. Greetings! My name is Steve Bahrt, and I will be the interim pastor for the next six months! Why an “interim” pastor? Well, foremost, an interim appointment fills the gap between Pastor Susannah's departure and the typical July 1 date of pastoral appointments. This allows the bishop and cabinet time to prayerfully consider the appointment of your next pastor during the normal process. Second, I'm retired and (hopefully) done with the workload of a full-time appointment!

I retired as of July 1, 2025. My most recent appointment had me at North Manchester UMC (Wabash Co.) for five years. Before that, I served at Kendallville Faith UMC for eight years. My previous appointments were in the old “South Indiana” conference, beginning at Laurel/Metamora (Franklin Co.) as a student pastor in 1995. I graduated from United Theological Seminary (Dayton, OH) in 1999 with a Master of Divinity and a Master of Arts in Religious Communication. I was ordained an elder in 2004.

Prior to my call to ministry, I was a civil engineer with a focus on soil and groundwater contamination from human activity – mostly chemical plants in and around Houston, TX. I have a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from Georgia Tech and a Master of Science from Texas A&M. I have lots of stories of that crazy world if you are interested or need help falling asleep.
